How do I vote on a show or competition?
It depends on the show or competition. They each have their own rules and terms, so when we invite you to vote or enter a competition we’ll tell you how. And we’ll tell you where you can find any other relevant info, like terms and conditions.
What are the rules for commenting and uploading?
We’d love you to post comments about our content and upload your creations. But please don’t do anything horrible, rude, or illegal. It just isn’t nice.
More specifically, don’t post or upload anything that:
- Was made by someone else, or that copies someone else’s creation
- Isn’t in English (unless we’ve asked you to comment in another language)
- Is illegal or defamatory (damaging to someone else’s reputation)
- Is inappropriate (offensive, off-topic or spam)
- Contains personal details
- Contains spam (unless you’re commenting on a story about reconstituted meat)
- Breaks our election and referendum rules.
- Does not comply with these terms
- Puts children at risk
- Infringes anyone’s rights (that includes privacy rights)
- You’ve made as part of your job or for your business
- Promotes a business
- Identifies someone (unless you have their consent or, if they’re under 16, the consent of their parent or guardian).
Who owns the content I post or upload?
You own the copyright if whatever you post or upload is completely new and original. That usually means it doesn’t contain anyone else’s content, like videos and music.
For anything that contains content made by someone else, the copyright may belong to them. So you’ll usually need to get their permission before posting it to the Website.
What can we do with the content that you post?
We may: Use, host, or store it in by Website Network Owner services and content:
Copy, change or translate it, or make things inspired by it
We will only edit your news-related content where necessary.
Read about how we use your news related comments and creations here.
Use it with our tools for making creations or remixing content
Some of our services – feature tools for playing around with our content, writing your own code, and making things like games and visualizations.
This might:
- Put your creations on display to inspire other people.
- Invite others to use your creativity to make their own creation
Moderate it
Which means we can review, edit, remove, or decide not to display it. And, if it breaks any laws, we can refer it to the police and other authorities.
And we can use your creations:
- Anywhere in the world
- In any medium (for example TV, the internet, radio)
- For as long as we want – even if you stop using our services.
And anyone we work with can do those things too. For example, if you send an image in the Company ownership, we could share a news item featuring that image with a foreign broadcaster, who’d then be able to do all the things above.
Some other things we will and won’t do:
- We may let other people use your creation. And sometimes we might let them edit it or make things inspired by it.
- We won’t pay you for it.
- We hope to use it. But we can’t guarantee it.
- We usually show your name alongside whatever you post. But we can’t guarantee it.
- We might contact you to check you’ve got permission to use any music, images, clips, or text in whatever you post.
There might be other terms
Sometimes uploading a creation to our services means using a tool provided by someone other than the by Website Network Owner. For example, you can use WhatsApp to share your stories and eyewitness accounts with the Company News.
Sometimes the provider’s terms and conditions apply to use their tool. Do read their terms (which you can search for online) as they tell you what the provider can do with your creation when you use their tool.
A note about your “Moral Rights”
When you upload something, you give up your moral rights to it. That means we can use it without identifying you as the creator
We can also edit or change it without your permission. And you won’t have the right to say we’ve treated it in a “derogatory” way.
Can I share things from the Company?
Yes, but there are a few rules (see below). Things you can share, AKA “shareable” normally have one or more of these buttons next to them:
- Share
- Embed
- RSS Feeds
Things you can do
Use sharing buttons
Some pages on the have a button that lets you “Share” a link to that page. It’s a great way of telling your friends about something interesting. Click the Share button and you’ll see a list of services such as Facebook, Google+ or Twitter.
We’ve chosen the ones that are most popular with people who use the Company. On some pages, Facebook and Twitter are more prominent as they’re the most popular. All the sharing services we link to can be used for free.
When you share with a social media platform their terms will apply. Do read their terms (which you can search for online).
Embed our player on your website or social media. Just don’t:
- Change how the player works
- Take content out of it
- Embed any content that doesn’t have an embed button.
Add the Company Newsfeed to your website or social media
Provided you:
- Do not change the feed or remove any of our branding or logos
- Credit us by saying it’s from the Company News
- Don’t add our branding, except for any that’s already embedded in the feed.
Post comments and views about our shareable.
Just as long as they’re not evil.
Things you can’t do
Don’t use shareable for harmful or offensive purposes
Here are some things that may harm or offend:
- Insulting, misleading, discriminating or defaming people

- Putting children at risk
- Anything illegal. Like using hate speech, inciting terrorism or breaking privacy law
- Anything that would harm the Company ’s reputation.
- Don’t make shareable look like they cost money
You can’t charge others for using our shareable. If you put them on a site that charges say they’re free-to-view.
Don’t make them more prominent than non-the Company content
Otherwise it might look like we’re endorsing you. And don’t make a service of your own that contains only our shareable.
Don’t exaggerate your relationship with the Company
Don’t say we endorse, promote, supply, or approve of you. Don’t use shareable for political purposes. And don’t say you have exclusive access to our content.
Don’t associate Company content with advertising or sponsorship
That means you can’t:
- Put any other content between the link to the shareable and the shareable itself. So no ads or short videos people have to sit through
- Put ads next to or over them
- Put any ads on a web page or app that contain mostly shareable
- Put ads related to their subject alongside shareable. So no trainer ads with a shareable about shoes
- Add extra content that means you’d earn money from them.
Don’t be misleading about where they came from
Don’t remove or alter the copyright notice, or imply that someone else made them.
Use the latest version. Don’t remove any embedded tagging or tracking. And make sure the content is displayed accurately.
Add one of these credits (if it doesn’t already have one):
- Website URL
- The Company name
If possible, add a hyperlink to the shareable’s original location. Make sure it works, and don’t put anything between the credit and the link.
